Statistics Canada says Cold Lake is growing faster than the province of Alberta!
Stats Canada released the new population numbers for our area, and Cold Lake has a total population of 13,839. That’s astonishing! That’s about 10,000 more people then when I was a young boy growing up here. This is a 15.4% increase in population from 2006, the province has seen an increase in population of 10.8% in that same time period.
People and clients ask us all the time, why are there so many houses being built and where is everyone coming from? Well the Stats Canada consensus totally explains why the construction numbers are so high, and based on the increase population in Alberta and Cold Lake, I would have to say that the new residents in the Cold Lake area are coming from other parts of Canada and the world. One thing’s for sure, if you see a large increase in population more jobs need to be created to give those people work. That isexactly what is happening in our area. Oilfield jobs have been increasing steadily and the Department of National Defence (4 Wing) continues to grow.
With Imperial Oil’s news announcement http://www.imperialoil.ca/Canada-English/about_media_releases_20120203.aspx amongst the other oil companies, our area will continue to see increased population and new home construction in our area. This adds new faces, new businesses and new services to improve on our quality of life here in Alberta.
